So I have been very busy- I got a new job as Editor of photo technique Magazine. I love being back in the Editor’s seat- it’s been a while since I edited the Photo Instructor for ILFORD. Also have been making many new images- I’ve embarked on a new series of garden-related images, part of my Secret Garden portfolio, but these are all digital. Here is an experiment made on the iPad just for fun- not really my style, plus it is too small to print- a bit disappointing, but my other new images are not really like this one. They are purely digital but the end result looks like a platinum print. Very enchanting- I will show some examples soon.

When did I stop being amazing?
It must have happened when I was sleeping. I really can’t say. I know it happened. I don’t know what to do about it.

Okay, so you wonder, how can you have a blog and realistically not make any posts in 5 months? It’s a good question. I’m busy. I have two part time jobs and I run a small business. I clean and do laundry. I have dogs. A garden. Other stuff. Sometimes I’m too tired to write here. But I want to. And I will. When I’m ready. Right now I am setting up some new stuff in my studio. Getting ready to enter some shows, wading through hundreds of negatives to scan, deciding on what projects to make into books and figuring out how to buy a new computer, plus a new copy of Photoshop.
I am constantly making new images. I’m shooting film again, medium format, black and white. I process it myself. How quaint.

Here are some new photographs made last weekend in Delaware.

Okay, so I cut my hair. It was long, then it got shorter, then it was blond, and now it is even shorter and back to its normal color or close to it. I miss my long braids, I miss not having to deal with the freaking blow dryer. Why do women cut their hair as they get older? I really don’t know anymore. I should be making photographs.

Do you ever reach the stage of exhaustion where you feel there is nothing to write- at least for now? That’s where I am. I did make prints in the darkroom last week, it was wonderful- there is nothing like a real black and white print, nothing at all that compares to it!

Today I spent some time cleaning out a closet. Since my ‘studio’ is an 8 ft x 10ft room, I don’t have a lot of storage space for tidy labeled boxes of things. I found a lot of older work – beautiful polachrome images printed on Cibachrome (Yes, before it was called ILFOCHROME) and all kinds of photogaphs that ended up in a large portfolio box, labeled as “Misc Photos.” Much older work was made on transparency film, 6×6 and 6×7, they haven’t been printed for years. When will I scan these? So I even want to scan them? Some of the color prints I found are quite lovely – my entire camp meeting project proofed on 8×10 paper and stored neatly in a sleeved portfolio- There are hundreds of images from that project. My head hurts thinking about it. Here is a self portrait (there were tons of those too) this one from Ellis Island, circa 1983 ish.
